How the Watchtower corporation really works (beginning to end)
by Terry inin 1925, judge rutherford penned an article of extreme controversy titled the birth of the nation.. the editorial committee (russell had created) would not approve it.. .
ruthford moved swiftly to remove them!
he then hid his massacre cleverly:.

Why do Jehovahs Witnesses preach from house to house?
by mankkeli inthis explanation is extracted from the reasoning book, page 205. .
jesus foretold for our day this work: this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.
he also instructed his followers: go .

i agree completely with all of MrMonroe's points. those are all exactly the reasons why they do it.
but even when i was still mentally in, it was a bit of a stumbling point to me that the preaching was only done door to door. i figured that in the apostle's day, without today's technologies, perhaps going door to door was the best way to reach all the people, but i always wondered if our message is so important, urgent, and life-saving, then why aren't we making sure it's spread everywhere on billboards, radio, tv, all forms of internet (not just an official WT site, but on forums, youtube, twitter, fb, etc). the official WT line to answer that is that jesus instructed us to go door to door in pairs, and that it's also still the most effective way to reach people.. well, i never quite agreed with that, since a two-hour saturday morning outing usually boils down to some time at coffee shops, driving around, bathroom breaks, some not at homes and maybe talking to about 3 people, 2 of which say "not interested", so that doesn't seem very "effective" to me; and also i figured jesus' point wasn't so much "go door to door" as it was "get the message out there".
..but hey, if the WT says so!

Do you sense that the Watchtower will implode?
by AK - Jeff insince leaving the organization 8 years ago, there have been more significant changes in the actual, physical activities of the organization than occurred in all the 40 plus years i was 'in'.
bethel closings.
bethel layoffs.

yes i do sense that, but not in a sudden way nor very soon. i imagine organizational changes and membership decline will gradually reduce it to near-nothingness over a period of 20-25 years.
this of course for all the reasons already mentioned on this thread like low youth retention, money issues, apathy & boredom, and most of all the INTERNET. on the other hand, the combination of all these factors and what it means, is so much more obvious for us who have all the facts lined up and see it from the outside, and therefore it might appear more weighty than it is for a group of people who don't know things about the religion they're in. from a leadership standpoint, they know they're in trouble, but they can avert it to a point if they also keep members in the dark about it. on a personal level, sometimes i find the WT so rediculous that it amazes me how ANYONE could still believe this tripe, and yet i continue to see many people, including younger ones, who truly sincerely buy into it, and also the occasional fresh converts, which really boggles my mind.
of course, it would be nice to see it happen sooner and quicker, so here's a 3rd amen to Quendi.

What do they get out of this?
by MisfitMeL inmaybe this has been discussed before but i'm starting to wonder why it is so important for wts to keep such a tight control over its members?.
is it because the gb and other folk in upper management are so delusional and psychotic, that they believe in the rubbish they spout?.
or is someone somewhere getting something (financially) out of this?.

yes, they are the rock stars of the imaginary universe they've created for themselves.. but i'm sure they know it's exactly that: imaginary!
there's no way they believe the stuff themselves. they're very well aware of the history of the organization, and make sure R&F members are not. they know of all the issues and how they're easily accessible on the net, and go to great lengths to make sure the R&F aren't even curious about what 'apostates' have to say.

sir82, the story IS spreading internationally..

thanks but no thanks! haha, i'd rather seem apostate to them than refer to apostates as "bad" and include myself in "us". :P
i also want any others who are in my position to recognize what i'm really doing by posting the articles, to help us find eachother

Mass defection possible?
by stuckinamovement inthere are many of us who are trapped within the religion and are looking at leaving.
i was wondering..... if there was an organized and well publicized effort to leave the organization en-masse on a certain date yet to be determined, how many do you think would participate?.
one person leaves the org and it creates a small ripple.

very very unlikely to happen simply as a planned date. if at all, it would just happen as a natural consequence of the momentum off something like we're experiencing today with those two articles being published and now spread worldwide. today is an exciting day on the board!
